A clinical position as consultant of pathology at the Department of Pathology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Pathology with special focus on translational breast pathology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department The Department of Pathology comprises diagnostics, research and teaching. The department has expertise in breast-, uro-, nephro-, dermato-, gynecological and gastrointestinal pathology. Furthermore, the department has a large Molecular Unit and houses Bio- and Genome Bank Denmark.
At present the department of pathology employs 35 consultants 12 fellows, 85 lab technicians, a professor in molecular biology, six academic staff members/molecular biologists, and an extended support function.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department The clinical work takes place in a well-functioning breast pathology team and includes timely diagnostics of diagnostic biopsies and surgical specimens, as well as participation in MDT conferences. The team received 11.000 referrals in 2024, making it one of the largest centers for breast pathology in the Nordic countries.
The breast pathology team collaborates with several other specialties at the hospital (surgeons, radiologists, oncologists), which ensures that patients receive highly professional and high-quality care.
The Department of Pathology has two physical units, one at Herlev Hospital and one at Gentofte Hospital. Breast pathology is centralized at Gentofte Hospital, and therefore the applicant will have their primary affiliation there.
The department handles breast pathology (primarily breast cancer diagnostics) for the entire Capital Region, with 1.9 million inhabitants.
Research and teaching With the new position as consultant in pathology and clinical professor of breast pathology the Department of Pathology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
The specific research area associated with the professorship is breast pathology, with a focus on improved diagnostics and targeted treatment of breast cancer through the implementation of deep learning/AI and molecular methods.
Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Pathology.
Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of pathology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of pathology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.
